The mission of the Office of Educational and Information Technology is to provide the technology foundation, vision, leadership, and support for the members of the Union Beach Public School community in the use of technology as a tool to achieve its academic and operational goals to increase of student performance and close of the achievement gap.

 
 

TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION

DIGITAL LEARNING
 

Digital Learning is "learning facilitated by technology that gives students some element of control over time, place, path and pace." Digital learning technologies enable students to grasp concepts more quickly and fully, to connect theory and application more adeptly, and to engage in learning more readily, while also improving instructional techniques, leveraging instructor time, and facilitating the widespread sharing of knowledge. Digital technologies will enable this in new and better ways and create possibilities beyond the limits of our current imagination.

MOBILE DEVICES AND DIGITAL CONTENT CREATION

 

The Union Beach School District piloted its first mobile devices in the classroom nearly 8 years ago, and today they are a staple in every classroom, from pre-school to 8th grade. Teachers use them to engage students and transform the learning experience.

 

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING

 

Professional development opportunities are available to teachers and teaching assistants (paraprofessionals). These activities are designed to improve the quality of classroom instruction; enable individuals to grow professionally; and introduce staff to the practical applications of time-tested strategies. These activities are performed both by district staff certified in different educational technologies, and outside technology professionals.

PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES

 

Google Apps for Education is a free service offered by Google that helps streamline academic tasks like writing essays, creating spreadsheets or presentations, and students can work together and see changes in real time. GAfE freesstudents to spend more time on learning and teaching. Everything is automatically saved in the cloud, which means that emails, documents, calendar and sites can be accessed - and edited - on almost any mobile device or tablet. Fast, easy collaboration is what makes Google Apps. Moving to Google Apps helps reduce both our district’s overall expenses and its environmental impact.

S.T.E.M

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education. We focus on these areas together not only because the skills and knowledge in each discipline are essential for student success, but also because these fields are deeply intertwined in the real world and in how students learn most effectively. STEM is an interdisciplinary and applied approach that is coupled with hands-on, problem-based learning.
